Description

"The Castle"
@
"Chich'en Itza"

The Maya name "Chich'en Itza" means
"At the mouth of the well of the Itza."
This derives from chi', meaning
"mouth" or "edge", and ch'e'en, meaning "well."
Itzá is the name of an ethnic-lineage group
that gained political and economic dominance of the northern peninsula.

The name is believed to derive from the Maya itz, meaning "magic," and
(h)á, meaning "water."
Itzá in Spanish is often translated
as "Brujas del Agua (Witches of Water)"
but a more precise translation would be
Magicians of Water.

Thanks Dominick!!!

Here is a youtube for your enjoyment and education.

Hope You Enjoy This National Geographic Short Film.

Oddly enough on here they say the loser of the deadly sports "game" they played in the courtyard caused the loser to die. We were told on the tour that the captain of the winning team would die. (?)

Anyway- Enjoy!

Thanks for the history lesson on this famous Mayan pyramid, Pom. The travel guy on PBS did not provide such interesting background.
As for the photo, I agree with Michelle: your original works so well on its own. Maybe you could've saved yourself a lot of time and given us just your un-retouched image...? #8430655

Hi you guys!

YES! It was amazing to be this close to a real pyramids and ancient ruins. There was an eerie feeling being there. I can't really explain it but it was a feeling of the past still being alive. They were quiet a people with rich history that was also filled with prophecy. Their biggest being for Dec 21st, 2012

I sort of liked all the shots I did so I thought it would be fun for you to see them all. :) Glad you had fun looking! (...and am glad each of you liked at least one!!!) :)

Sure love having you visit! Thanks so much!

I like the sky colors & effects in this one, Lala! Seems appropriate for this location! #8441083

Thank you Kalena! You were the first one to mention this!!!

Lavender is a heaving color, too. Turquoise seems to represent Mexico.

It was fun to make. It wasn't selective coloring but lassoing.
