What can you tell us about the horse in the foreground? It looks as if it is very old or half starved judging by the ribs and bones in its rump. It is an excellently composed image Tony but I can't quite get past me wanting to load a bale of hay into my truck and heading over there. #1245023

I like this a bunch Tony. It captures the coldness of the morning with it's soft haze and is nicely composed.

LOL You'll be happy to know that there will be no law suit because of the plagiarized title from my elephant shot. :o) I'm a very forgiving guy. #8431656

Thanks fellers...Peter I don't know anything about these horses other than they were grazing as I was driving by and I thought they would make for some good shots.

Thats funny Dale, I honestly didn't recall that as being the title of your elephant shot even though it wasn't that long ago. My subconscious probably recalled it and shoved it into my thought process so I could emulate your skills in any way possible ;-) #8431702

Slim Pickens indeed! Not much there to munch on. Love the comp and expecially the haze. Really amplifies the feeling of cold!! #8431787

Nice work Tony. I like the lighting both on the horse in front as well as in the background. Very cool image. #8431851

this is a lovely picture Tony as said excellently composed image....its just to bad you can't make the horses a little fatter. awesome picture #8432666

Great image Tony, and the title works really well with the look of the horses.

My first thought was to call this Lazy, only bec. I just looked at Ellen's racing horses shot, and the contrast between the images is so apparent. Hers is so motion, and this is so still. I think like a teacher (I am one!) and these two shots would make great ones to compare and contrast - motion, color, composition, etc. :)

Debbra they are complete opposites. Truth be told the horses in my shot would be much happier in Tony's shot. Cooling their heels and foraging.
I too like the composition and the haze in the BG. And of course I love the subjects. The guy in front does need some groceries. By judging the horse in the back the front one is either old or just came to this farm, because the back one is fat. #8433987

Love the soft, cold, hazy feel of this shot and the Comp is great too...but be a doll Tony, and load up a bale of hay and just drop it over the fence for the poor old horsy in the front...it makes me sad to look at him :(
I'll agree it is a great comparison shot to Ellen's horse racing photo....but gosh, I'd just love to give them a bale of good alfalfa hay or a big bunch of oats...whatever it is horses like the best. This photo stirs pity in me, even though it is very well done. #8434703

Thank you Joan, Jeff Rita, Deb, Ellen and Susan...I didn't even notice how thin that guy was until I was editing the pics...Hopefully as Ellen said he is old or they just got him.. #8435495

Ellen H. Robertson level-classic March 06, 2010

To have one horse as fat as the second is and the front one as thin. Chances are they are working on getting him fat. Or he may be an old timer in retirement. In my experience rarely do you have horses of such extremes at one farm without them working on the skinny one. If both of them were that thin I would say call the Humane Society. #8435693

Wonderful shot Tony. Like the others I really like the cold mourning feel of the shot with the haze in the BG. Beautifully captured. #8436705

Thanks for the expert insight to the scenario Ellen. Makes me feel better that he is probably not being neglected. Thank you too Mike.. #8437504

A beautiful shot Tony...love the light and the detail in the fur of the foreground feller! Congrats on your EP! :~) #8448671

Anthony, The only shots I ever get of horses are ones I've taken on the sly. I'm always afraid the owner will come along. Good capture, #8452883

Thank you Amy and thanks Deb....I have never been confronted by any owners but I doubt many of them would be offended as long as your not trespassing...they would probably be proud you thought their steeds were photoworthy! #8452970

Another trick to keep in your bag is to offer to make a print for them. Just make sure you follow through. #8453035
