I really like this Debbie. The strong contrast of this image is very appealing. The only suggestion I would give is a tighter crop, taking a little off the top and the bottom. #1244460Michael Kelly March 03, 2010
I like this one a lot Debbie - this is the kind of shot that can look really good as a Kodalith (basically a B&W with no grays) I love the lines and the diagonal comp. While there is a bit of negative space I think it works well for the drama of the shot. Jeff's suggestion of a tighter shot may work too, but that is one I would need to see to know for sure. It certainly works well for me as presented. #8429534

This is a lovely composition Debbie. I like it a lot.If you want to try Mike's suggestion of a Kodalith, you can get a pretty good idea by just applying the threshold adjustment to the image. If you do that, it would work much better with about 1/2 the area cropped from both the top and bottom.
That's because you'd lose all the detail in the snow in the foreground and your comp would be affected. It would be different if there were some fence on the right though. #8429839

I like the image and I'm also in favor of the comp as is...I think trying the kodalith would change the image quite a bit because I think the loss of the gold tones in the bg grasses would create a new level of starkness to the shot. #8430099Teresa H. Hunt March 03, 2010
Debbie, I love this shot. I could easily be used as a book cover. Though to see in in B&W would be interesting, I agree with Tony on the loss of the gold tones. Wonderful image! :) #8430171Peter W. Marks March 04, 2010
Debbie, you just know I had to count the trees to make sure there wasn't twelve!Debbie E. Payne March 04, 2010
Thanks all....This started off as just another one of my "weary" drive-bys. Maybe only @ 2 % of which ever amount to much of anything...but I keep on trying anyhow!I'm thinking it is stark enough for me as is but I may try it as a black and white later on. Yes Theresa, it does look like a bookcover. Now all I have to do is write a book. (Especially, since I now have time on my hands...)
I knew you'd count the trees, Peter! You make me laugh! Such a good thing! Now, my only ? to all of you is: What category does this belong in anyway? #8431438
Jeff E Jensen March 04, 2010
I'd put it in EOD. #8431583Debbie E. Payne March 04, 2010
it's either that or digital darkroom. thanks, jeff! #8431724Joan E. Hoffman March 04, 2010
Nothing to NOT love about this image Deb! I agree about it being a perfect book cover! However, writing it sounds like way to much work lOL. #8431790Peter W. Marks March 04, 2010
Debbie, I am not sure that Digital Darkroom really fits but that depends on how much you had to do to the image other than just a bit of cropping, sharpening and maybe levels.Debbie E. Payne March 04, 2010
thanks for your research, Peter. I like the odds the best on EoD and after all there is an element of perspective going on here. EoD it is! #8432294Debbra Bailey March 05, 2010
Great image - love the starkness, and I too had to count... #8433571Kathleen Nealon March 05, 2010
Stunning image. I love it exactly as it is in all its stark beauty. #8433606Debbie E. Payne March 05, 2010
Thank you, Debbra and Kathe! I didn't count until I was in the process of searching for a title. #8433674Ellen H. Robertson March 05, 2010
This is striking! Love the angle of the trees and the fence on the left. I could see this as a cover of a mystery novel. Or on someones wall. #8433968Susan M. Reynolds March 05, 2010
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this photo just as it is! I think it's wonderful and what do you know...I had to count the trees too before I even read all the comments.Susan M. Reynolds March 05, 2010
I also agree that it would make a wonderful cover for a mystery novel or as a fine art wall print...you need to get this shot out there in other contests or submit it to publishing houses if there is a way to do that...This photo just so hit me with that "WOW" factor that I just keep coming back to it. Very nicely done! #8434697Aimee C. Eisaman March 15, 2010
