Nikon D200, Date: 1/22/10 @ 12:51 p.m. using ambient window light, Shutter Speed, 1/40 sec, Aperture: f/3.5, ISO: 100, Focal Length 60mm, Spot metering, Manual Mode. Lens Nikon 60.0mm.
The rain was pounding so I had to get my new plant out of the weather before it was pounded to smithereens (is that a word?)...thus all the water.
This is a Chantilly Lace Hydrangea. The hydrangea (any type) has been one of the hardest flowers for me to capture due to it's variable difference of height from blossom to blossom...I found this ring of new buds on a new plant my husband just bought for me no reason..."just because"! (Super Sweet Man!) He knows how much I love this flower and this is a unique version of your typical hydrangea.
Exif: F Number: 3.5, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/40 seconds, Flash: did not fire., ISO: 100, White balance: Manual white balance, FocalLength: 60.00 mm, Model: NIKON D200

Thank you Michelle :) #8334772Debbie E. Payne March 19, 2010
Very good macro, Susan. I like the black background; it sets it off so perfectly! Not being able to lift my camera I also haven't been to the store to buy any bouquets this year yet. I will have to wait a while for flowers. I did have the first tiny crocuses blooming in the front yard, but then it snowed today. Always the case in Colorado. #8466630Jeff E Jensen March 19, 2010
Absolutely beautiful Susan! Well done. #8466657Susan M. Reynolds March 19, 2010
Thanks, Jeff, and Debbie - hope you're better soon ~ #8467140Dale Hardin March 19, 2010
This is so interesting and brought back a long lost memory. As a child, we used to eat those little unopened blossoms. One by one. Have no idea why and can't remember how they tasted. #8467255Anthony L. Mancuso March 20, 2010
Excellent lighting and color Susan, I think the center weighted comp works really well also...Isn't there a song that starts off with "Chantilly lace and a something something something? Congrats on the EP! #8467641Peter W. Marks March 20, 2010
Beautiful image Susan and as Debbie said, the setting against the black background is perfect."Chantily lace and a pretty face and a pony tail hangin' down
A wiggle and a walk and a giggle and a talk made the world go round
There ain't nothing in the world
Like a big eyed girl to make me act so funny make me spend my money
Make me fool real loose like a long necked goose......etc etc"

Susan. This is lovely. Your focus and dof have created this winner (IMHO). #8469331Joan E. Hoffman March 21, 2010
Would never have guessed this was a hydrangea Susan, very unusual and unusually beautiful. Fantastic shot! Remind me not to enter anything in flowers this month, you and Dale have it all tied up! LOLThanks Peter, now I will be singing that all day in my head! (which is far better that out loud!) #8470026

O I love that song...my Grandmother used to play it for me all the time when I was getting ready to go out somewhere. I think this is a lovely macro! The light is so pretty and I like how it naturally falls off around the edges! Congrats on your EP! :~) #8471546Susan M. Reynolds March 24, 2010
