Sorry Josh, I'm not sure if this is a case of the emperor's new clothes but this picture does not work for me. My overwhelming feeling is 'uncomfortable'. The colouration does not save an otherwise unsightly image. #1671597

Jaynee Germond 8/3/2005 7:42:39 AM

Magnificent! #1671624

V 8/3/2005 7:44:09 AM

It sort-of works for me. Since the B&G are already mostly B&W, their colorization doen't quite make them stand-out as much.
ONE QUESTION... Is there any significance to the one bridesmade? I'm thinking cheap hollywood movie here... Did the groom used to date her?
(LOL) #1671630

Carol J. Watkins 8/3/2005 8:07:00 AM

Very well done. I love the little bit of color and the expressions of the people in the back are great. #1671737

Josh Hudson 8/3/2005 8:55:37 AM

Thank you for all the responses (Good and Bad).

I create my images so that the subjects interact with themselves and their environment. Not everyone appreciates the loosness of this photo, but the B&G will not only have their moment, but they have captured the personalities of their family and friends forever in this photo. For me that makes this photos ring truer than a static row of statue representations of people that attended.

Those who find the image 'uncomfortable' and unsightly probably feel more comfortable with a more traditional image. They are safe soothing photos.

If you look this photo has a lot going on it it. There is the obvious layers of the B&G and the second layer of the family.

1. If you look there is the great golden triangle of the B&G creating a sense of stability in the composition-- which is further reinforced by the centering of the couple.

2. The rest of the family fills the frame, creating something to look at throughout the entire image. While they are all casually interacting to the moment, they are all vertical creating a sense of support.

3. It may not be obvious, but every character has a leading line to the center of the image.

4. The "colorization" is just giving a slight boost to the already shallow depth of field. The family can identify who is who, but the focus is always on the couple.

5. Finally, you get the sense of candor to the image with give a feeling that this is a real vice a staged moment.

It is exactly the way I would have approached this image if I were to paint it.

For those who like it, thank you. For those who don't, I would hope you would at least appreciate it. You don't have to like art or music to appreciate it. #1671925

Susan L. Vasquez 8/3/2005 9:21:07 AM

Well I think it's wonderful, love the naturalness of the people looking on in the background. Great work, and congrats on the POTD #1671995

V 8/3/2005 9:22:45 AM

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it whole-heartedly, and I am sure the B&G are THRILLED with it.

What about the colorized bridesmaid?
Sister, next in line, etc? #1672001

Jacqueline C. Harmon 8/3/2005 9:45:08 AM

i think its great! you put alot of thought into it! congrats on your potd! #1672136

Dr Silly 8/3/2005 10:37:01 AM

Well Done. One for the B&G to hang.

Dr Silly

Josh Hudson 8/3/2005 12:32:40 PM

the only ones that are slightly colorized are the B&G. The background is not totally desaturated, and the dress that one bridesmaid is wearing probably pops out more with their colors to you. #1672782

Lisa M. Austin 8/3/2005 12:58:49 PM
