This is one of the best portraits I've seen in a very long time. Huge Kudos to you for knowing that a dramatic shadow should fall on the side of the face nearest to the lens. That gives this stunning drama and dimension that you've created. AWESOME! #1211033

Wow, thanks for all the wonderful comments, everyone! The original in color is a lot smoother - in Photoshop what I wanted to do was bring out as much of the texture and natural contrasts in my skin as I could (without looking horrifying, of course). The funny thing is that this was the last shot I took, almost as an afterthought and without any sort of setup, I was getting frustrated not getting the shots that I'd had in mind... Good thing I didn't erase it! #8180017
