Description

! Folks !

Did you know that Dogs and Cats
Can get Diabetes???
!!! YES !!!!

Our kitty: FANGY-DOODLE
HAS IT
And Thanks To The Hope Of
CANINSULIN INJECTIONS
Twice Per Day
He Is Alive And Well And Doing Great.
WE ALMOST LOST HIM TWO YEARS
AGO WHEN WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT
WAS WRONG AND HE WAS SO SICKLY.

Some Kitties Grow Out Of It.
Ours Won't.

After the onslaught of
FELINE DIABETES
Most Cats live 2-5 years with proper diet and treatment.
Our Kitty Has Had It Over Two Years Now.
(I dont know the stats for dogs).

Additional information: If Interested:

What Are the Symptoms of Feline Diabetes?

* Excessive thirst and urination
* Loss of weight due to the body's inability to handle glucose
* Vomiting
* Loss of appetite
* Weakness
* Poor skin and coat condition
* Breathing abnormalities
* Dehydration

Signs of Diabetes Mellitus

Polyuria, polydipsia, increased appetite, and weight loss are hallmark signs of diabetes mellitus in cats. In the earlier stages of the disease, cats remain active and alert with few other signs of disease. However as the disease progresses, poor skin and haircoat, liver disease, and secondary bacterial infections become more common. An infrequent disorder called diabetic neuropathy may cause cats to become progressively weaker in the rear legs and assume a unique, plantigrade stance. A dangerous condition called ketoacidosis may develop in some cats. Signs of ketoacidosis include a loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, weakness, dehydration, and breathing abnormalities. Without proper and prompt treatment, this condition ultimately proves fatal.

Poor Fangy. And the work you do for that kitty is amazing, Sis.

I have some friends who have a cat with diabetes. It costs them a fortune when they go away as they have to board it at the vets.
This is a terrific image, Swanee!! #8140844

Laura E. Swan level-classic November 18, 2009

Well..I'll tell you...I haven't had a vacation in over two years that has taken me more than 1 hour from home!!!

Where I go, Fangy goes. Good thing he likes camping in the Rockies with me! That's my great escape.

SSSKiki, he gets 8cc's twice a day. So only a portion of that syringe gets filled up twice daily. :)

Thanks for your additions to this thread and comments everyone!!! :) I'd do anything for our 3 little kitties. They are my babies!

Good morning Michelle, Gord, Jeff, Barbara, Christine, Big Sis Pat, Brother Rolan and Monnie!

What a thrill to see you have all dropped by to leave such great remarks on this. I wish you could all meet little Fangy. Not so little now! He had gone down to 7 or 8 lbs and very bony when he was sick 2 1/2 years ago and now he is 10-11 lbs and strong (lean) and his personality is BACK! He's so happy and sweet!

Boy you guys sure good to me. I always dreamed of having dainty pretty hands. WOW! Pretty hands? Hand model? 29? HA!

Where do I send you each a check? (My REACH is an octave and one key however on the piano so I am happy about THAT!)

Thanks everyone for your wonderful and caring words here.

-Laura

Last to first:

Thank you Mumj! I am really glad too and I but FANGY still digs being here! He's a delightful sweet kitty who seems happier and healthier than he ever did before, now!!! It's so worth saving them if you are able to! I know you have the same kind heart for your kiare a wonderful terrific Mummy kitty, too and to all of those around you!

* * *

How sad! Epileptic? Well this too can be managed. My sister had a dog with it and it was always so scary for them when it would happen...Thanks lots for your kind comments, Tammy!!!

* * *

Me, too, Ron...but Oscar has YOU and SHIRLEY! :D That would be the good news!

Hi Joseph! I really wanted this one to be a public awareness image for "HOPE" so am thrilled that I was able to teach you something new today! Guess who is sitting right here with me watching me type to you four and wanting on my lap?

Great MT entry Laura. Your kitty sure picked the right owner! Great news that they can have shots isn't it? I babysat for my girlfriends cat when she went on trips until Abbey got Diabetes. I wish I could handle giving her shots but I can't so now my friend boards her at the vet. She's fortunate the people at the vets love her cat very much. Is yours a Russian Blue? #8144949

Nancyj E. Hovey level-classic November 19, 2009

Animals sure know the way straight to our hearts... my two kitties...were both rescued from SPCA. LondonFog was with us for 14 years, and was the sweetest shadow anyone could have...the last 5 years she had lost all of her teeth. Littlebit, has been with us 13 years, and is a pistle... full of it!!! but saddly she has two types of stones - bladder, and kidney (usually cats only get one or the other), has special strict diet, and has seisures as well! But she is still our loving baby ... It truly is wonderful to have pets in our lives, to help us thru every day with that meowwwww sound... (depending on the pet)... what a wonderful day each day! we are truly loved by animals! 8o)mumj #8145106

Hi Stef, Julianne, Mumj, Ellen and Doug!

Thank you guys for your visit and everything that you added to this thread!

Julianne, believe it or not you get used to it. My hands shook the first few times and the kitty was freaking out...It was really hard! Now it's second nature and Fangy doesn't mind much at all unless I miss and hit a vein! Yeowwwww! Thanks for all you said!

*

Mumj thank you for sharing what you did. I love that we can have a thread to talk about these things. You added a lot about kitty health and care to this conversational thread! Thank you very much!

good night all!
