Hope - H1N1
Uploaded: November 05, 2009
This Is Dedicated To Every One
We Know Who HAS SUFFERED, IS SUFFERING or MIGHT SUFFER
With H1N1.
THERE IS HOPE.
* * *
History has it that the first known outbreak of H1N1 was that of Avian Influenza.
It happened sometime around 1918-1919.
The pandemic was phenomenally called as Spanish Flu not because
it originated in Spain but because Spain is the only European country
that printed reports about it
The Spanish Flu killed about 50-100 million people worldwide.
We can see how this virus has evolved from a simpler Avian Flu to Swine Flu
and eventually to a mixture of different strains.
NONETHELESS, WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD AND COUNTING ON
THE MEDICAL PEOPLE TO COME UP WITH
A WAY TO TOTALLY ERADICATE AND PUT A STOP TO THIS PANDEMIC.

Despite the pandemic proportions of swine flu has taken , it is nonetheless possible to minimize the risk of being infected by the virus. Here are six tips that will greatly help you lessen your chances of becoming sick with swine flu.1. Stay healthy. Even though healthy people can still get sick with swine flu, if you are a healthy person, your chances of falling ill because of the virus will become minimal. To stay healthy, you need to eat food rich in vitamins and other nutrients and drink plenty of liquids. You also need to exercise regularly, make sure you have a good night’s sleep, as well as avoid getting stressed out.
2. Keep your hands clean. You can get the swine flu virus by touching a surface contaminated by the virus and then touching your nose, eyes or mouth afterwards. Because you will never know when you will be touching something infected, it is important that you wash your hands frequently, especially before eating.
Use soap and warm water whenever you can and spend around 20 seconds washing your hands each time you do. If soap and warm water are not available, have a bottle of hand sanitizer or isopropyl alcohol around all the time. When you use a hand sanitizer or alcohol, rub your hands until the alcohol has dried off.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. As mentioned above, the swine flu virus can enter your bloodstream when you touch a contaminated surface and then bring your hands to your eyes, nose and mouth. As thus, you should avoid doing that as much as possible.
4. Avoid touching public surfaces. Surfaces in a public place are breeding grounds for germs. So many people pass by these places and you will never know which one is sick and transmitting the swine flu virus. Therefore, you should avoid touching public surfaces like escalator or stairwell rails and doorknobs whenever possible. If you cannot avoid doing so, then wash your hands frequently.
5. Keep surfaces in your household clean. You and other members of your family bring inside the house the germs that you have picked up from outside. If you are not careful, you can leave trails of germs on doorknobs, countertops and other surfaces in your home. As thus, you can prevent the spread of swine flu in your family by keeping these surfaces clean.
It is not that difficult to practice measures that will minimize your risk of being sick with the swine flu virus. But if you do not want to get sick, you need to be vigilant about minimizing your risks.

A very powerful image and statement, SSSLala. I mean: Impressive!! The way you used the light to capture the face and the mask with the mask in focus and the eyes hidden behind it really emphasises the message of the image. WELL DONE!!!Maria Warren November 06, 2009

WOW, this is a fantastic image about such an important issue - our health world wide! Excellent Laura...Good news, Infection control from a local hospital here said, that once having the H1N1 virus - a body will build up some immunities, and may not need the vaccination! BUT check with your personal physician regarding the subject ALWAYS! ...

Hi Tiia, SSSKiki, L.S. Maria, Dominick, Joao, Michelle, Renata, Tess, Jeff, Susie, Mumj, Brother Rolan, Tammy, John, M.Path, and Ron!Thank you all so much for coming to view this one. I was thinking of the monthly theme and it hit me how much it means to have HOPE for the endsof a disease that has taken so many lives.
I had a super opportunity in a very busy clinic to take this shot yesterday. I am still waiting for symptoms to appear here since it was clear that there were very sick people waiting for comfort and help there. I also put on a mask there, that they offered, and waited my turn for two hours...! I was there for test results for something else however.
Our VERY OWN NANCYJ HOVEY, near and dear to many of us, is recovering from H1N1 right now and doing well...but she caught it within the first three days and was able to take special pills that stopped H1N1 in it's tracks as not to advance into the next horrible stages. She did suffer for DAYS still but her body made the turn around.
Another close friend of mine wasn't so lucky, had it for a month and nearly lost her life. She waited too long for help.
Symptoms seem to onset within a few hours not days and they can include BAD Headache, high fever, terrible sinus, throat and chest pain, loss of voice, hot flushing and cold chills...
These happen usually right away in the first two days or so and hit hard. They both have said "You can tell that something really weird and different is going on"...
Mumj...if you want to add to this or correct me if I am wrong please feel free.
It/s good for us, as family and friends on BP, to be able to talk about this. Maybe this can be a place for any forum shared. Feel free all and thank you for dropping in.
I am really glad this had an impact on all of you.
PREVENTION REALLY IS THE BEST MEDICINE!!!
The Doctor said yesterday that the washing of our hands constantly is the most important in his opinion...

Fantastic image, Laura! I think you got the message across very well indeed! I know a few people who have contracted the disease and one of them has had it for almost 2 weeks now and is very ill! I got my H1N1 vaccination last Friday, so I still have a few more days before I'm fully protected. It's a scary thing but I'm glad that there are some ways in which we can help cure and stop the illness from spreading. Love the amazing lighting and composition of this image! Another winner in my book! :) #8129578Nancyj E. Hovey November 14, 2009
HEY, this should be up in all door entrances of all public buildings...to remind people... I had that flu for 2 wks, and just got back out in public... oh, so many out there sneezing, blowing their nose, feverish, and still walking in and out of all those doors, with NO SANITIZER, NO KLEENEX, etc..... so, yesterday, I STILL went, per docs orders, to get my H1N1 flu vaccination... my immune system is so poor... so hope this saves me from another round of it... it is the worse flu virus I have ever encountered, and I had a mild case. The Tamiflu took care of it, but ONLY because I went to the doctor within the first 24 hours, and started it within the next hour of the visit!!! Stay healthy all!!! my best to you all in this horrible H1N1 season... !!! and if you get sick, STAY HOME under quarantine....do yourself and others a HUG of protection! It WILL help! SO glad I am alive and able to return to the world .... my doctor told me I am plain lucky to be alive...what an 'eye opener'...sorry I am late on threads.... now you all know why!!! hugs...my friends...with precautions!!! 8o) #8130439
