~RACE TO THE TOUCH-DOWN~ ACBP - Story-Telling

Uploaded: October 14, 2009 21:39:23

Description

In ballooning, the "piece de resistance" is to be able to touch down on water. The Colorado Balloon Classic, in Colorado Springs, is a perfect place for this to happen. Each year the festival is at Memorial Park, adjacent to Prospect Lake where many balloonists race to see who will be the first to "touch-down". Some years this happens and sometimes the weather does not co-operate. This was one of the best days I've seen!
For ACBP - one of four story-telling shots. Set-up: tripod with release. Aperture: f/8, ISO 100 and a shutter speed of 1/400 sec.

Exif: F Number: 8, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/400 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 200, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 24.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 40D

Aimee...I have a hard time throwing away images because there may always be a "hidden gem" in a huge folder filled with too many shots that ought to go in the circular file. Thank goodness I kept this one. Didn't you suggest a while back to clone out the balloon behind the main balloon? I think I would have messed up the water if I'd tried to do that because I would have had to clone out the balloon AND its reflection. It's sort of busy but it is an accurate rendition of what we all saw that day. Thank you for being so good about going through our galleries. I wish I had more time so I could do as much as you do. #8072613

Wow, guys! It's been a while since I've been on email and I want to thank you for your kind words! This festival has got to be my favorite thing to shoot in the Springs. We came very close to going up in one of these this fall but plans fell through. Will try for next fall,

Usman, thank you! It was a perfect day. Of the five years or so that we have been going to this, this day was by far the best for photos.

Aimee - that's the beauty of taking lots of shots. You don't have time to go through them all, so they are like "found treasures" when you go back and finally know what to do with them.

Jeff and Anthony - thanks for all your input over the year or so Phellos has been together. This is one of the reasons I can look at something that I passed over a couple of years ago and now can be a good shot.

Valentin and Nancy, thanks for commenting. I need to go to the Finalists site and see what my BP friends are up to!

Christine, I find it interesting that for about three years now I've entered some of my BP EP's and finalists in the local contest and so far nothing and most of the pictures they do put in do not measure up to BP standards. Me and a graphic arts teacher friend of mine always wonder why our photos keep getting passed up. SOOOO....long story short, I'm thankful for BP, all it's taught me and the recognition it gives to so many of its members.

I can not imagine why photos like this would get passed over in any venue. Love your balloon shots and this is one of my favorites. Congratulations on a very well deserved Finalist. #8163156
