Animals - August 24/09

In an effort to coexist with wildlife, consider the enormous hardships these intelligent and fascinating wild creatures encounter because so much of their habitat has been destroyed. Each year they are forced into closer contact with people and must compete with us for food, shelter and space. This little racoon was up high in the rafters of a huge waterslide at a Wild Waterworks Park. Apparently, they love to sleep on the slides in the early morning and when the park attendants come to work, these racoons panic, and climb upwards and try to hide...
Of-course all the kids had to wait until staff managed to get him down before they could go up and enjoy the ride down.

That's a sad story and he sure does look scared. I'm glad the staff got him down, he must have been terrified. Terrific capture of this sad moment Christine. #1172204

Nice shot. we love animals also, but where we live these guys reign. They travel as families of 2,3, or even 4 and take down bird feeders, rummage through any garbage left out and general do as they please. They also will bite your hand off. We love them also, but don't worry, they will survive - and don't corner one. #7885245

I love to read the great understanding and heart that you have for these magnificent (and other) animals, Christine. It's the same story all over the world and so sad. I'm glad your story ended well and that you got this great shot. #7885303

Ooohhh...Poor little fella. How sad, and like Kiki said, it's happening all over the world. I always feel so horrible when I hear there is a forest fire somewhere. All the animals trapped or running or hiding or partially burned or fully burned up. I can hardly bare bare it. Even the ones that make it out safely are then homeless...

I hope the park attendants are sweet with the little racoons...but likely it could go either way when having to SHEW an animal away.

Great timing here and good conversations for us to have about this issue!

Good Afternoon Ann, Daniel, Kiki, and Sis Laura.

Thank you very much for your warm comments/understanding of these wild racoons...

I have a soft spot for all creatures who are contained...yesterday I took my son/his friend to the Toronto National Exhibition and we entered the Farm Building and was thrown back to see these huge Mother Pigs stabilized by steel (they just gave birth to many little piglets, and they needed to stay in one place/calm, I guess.) I tried to get photos of their piglets threw this glass, but huge mom was in the foreground and it was hard to see these little ones...

Kare, I would love to have property to raise all injured creatures and set them back into the wild when I could... that would be an thrilling satisfying experience... thank you for your great comments my friend!
