Lancaster County, PA, July 4, 2009
------------
There is no denying the sheer beauty of an Amish farm.

----------
With the abundance (to understate) of rain that has deluged Eastern Pennsylvania this past Spring and Summer, the corn was more accurately characterized as "shoulder high" this Independence Day.

------------
I photographed a lot of farms, and surprisingly, have spent many hours cloning away the obvious signs of modernity....TONS of electric and telephone wires connecting to the majority of the farm buildings and homes that I saw!!

You are so right about the lovliness of Amish farms, Michelle. There are a few of them around here but not nearly in the numbers one sees in PA. I so like your use of the corn in the foreground here. #7832255

Beautiful, Michelle! If I didn't know better, I would think you took down the road from me... there are no Amish farms that I know of in the area, but this definitely represents the landscape here in northwest Illinois.

I HOPE this corn is being raised for food! Here, they're raising most of it for ethanol. It sounds Green ... I however, question the wisdom of using food crops for fuel when there are many other, non-food crops to use. In fact it seems insane! However, I can't blame the farmers as they get more money if the crops go for ethanol. I rather hope the Amish haven't jumped on the bandwagon... don't really know.

In the meantime, a beautiful shot! I tend to leave the power-lines in (most of the time) but I have to admit, it's prettier without them! #7834526

Kay Beausoleil August 10, 2009

Great atmosphere, Michelle, with a lovely mix of peaceful colours.

Before computers, we all dreamed about a powerline filter. Sometimes they add to the composition, but if not, wires be gone! #7834979
