I took this Friday night at a little lake called Duck Lake in the Uinta Mountains in Northeastern Utah. My brother and I packed in (about 3 miles) on Friday and the weather was fabulous. Saturday, the weather turned nasty and it was a wet and sloppy. Because of the weather, my camera spent most of the time tucked away in a dry bag in my pack. I did manage to get a few good shots in. #1144539Debbie E. Payne June 21, 2009
This is great, Jeff. I have never tried anything with such a long shutter speed. I'd have to look up how to do it , obviously on a tripod with the bulb setting, right? Very cool; a shot like this made your soggy, rainy Saturday, right? (You can answer now that you are home and all dried off.} #7662881Jeff E Jensen June 21, 2009
You are right Debbie: Tripod and Bulb setting. Despite the weather, it was a really great trip. Here's another shot I took - left the shutter open for a little over an your for this one. #7662907

Your first image is beautiful! The golden glow with those trees in silouhette is what really draws me in. Great star trails! So glad you got to take your camera out for this one! Your second shot is really neat too. Really shows how the earth is spinning....almost makes you dizzy! LOL! :~) #7664152Jodi M. Walsh June 22, 2009
very cool Jeff and glad it was worth the trip.my sis-in-law tried some shots like this with a film camera a couple years ago. there are some great spots to star gaze up near my dad's camp. i've never been brave enough to venture out at night like that. too many bears for my taste :-) #7665288

Wonderful star trail shots. Glad you had a good trip despite the uncooperative weather. It seems this is a very weird year for weather all over the country. #7666492Jeff E Jensen June 22, 2009
Thanks all! I should have the opportunity to try some more of these this weekend. #7667660Vicki Snow June 23, 2009
this is so cool....i'm gonna have to try this sometime....the shilloute of the trees and the golden bg is awesome. Wonder if the really bright streak is the northern star #7669019Debbra Bailey June 23, 2009
Very cool shots! I too think this would be fun to try! #7669540Ellen H. Robertson June 23, 2009
Love them both. They are facinating. Love the golden tones in the first and the swirls in the second.Jeff E Jensen June 23, 2009
Thanks for the comments everyone. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite shots of the summer. Looks like the judges liked it also!Sorry Vicki, not the North Star. This is looking West. #7671780
