Sunset on the Dunes

Uploaded: April 19, 2005 21:16:06

Description

A fading sun still warms interesting patterns of thin dried mud created by rains that wash the dust from the sand. Winds often blow the sand out from under the dried layers. It crumbles to repeat the process again.

What an amazing effect that makes Alton. Great image. What is the white on the left hand horizon? I can't figure out if it is cloud. Looks too clean for dried mud. #246329

Thank you Kate,
for your gracious comment. The white on the middle left of the picture is mountains way off in the distance. The even haze and the bright setting sun faded them to grayish white.
