This is a Great Great Photo.Good Job. #23922

Rick, thanks for the compliment! Coming from a bird photog, it means a bunch! Took a peek at your gallery. Your stuff is good! Animals are very difficult for me, domesticated, wild, caged whatever, so I was real pleased with this. I also caught a red bellied woodpecker which was usually elusive to me. #58255

Nice find, Shelley. I love male cardinals in the snow! What's with this little guy's feather--bad feather day? #58453

Shelley Sanders May 26, 2019

Thanks everyone! Murry, his feather was being blown by the wind. Can you believe ISO 50? Do you guys think I should clone that out, today it looks odd to me! LOL #58518

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Shelley, I always clone out these little imperfections. I guess I'm not a purist :0) #58521

Shelley Sanders May 26, 2019

Well from one non-purist to another, I will try that then! : ) I forgot to show my woodpecker, not really contest material, but I was excited. #58530

Cathy M. Gromball May 26, 2019

You're kidding, right, Shelley? Your woodpecker shot is dynamic, and is absolutely contest material! I sure hope you post it!

Cathy :) #58546

Shelley Sanders May 26, 2019

Cathy, that's sweet and I thank you. I really am happy that I caught it, especially with my camera and no telephoto, but it's flat to me. The cardinal, trust me, won't go to finals either! LOL There are much better bird shots out there, and I will be the first to admit it, birds are not my forte'! LOL #58551

Cathy M. Gromball May 26, 2019

Nope, nope, nope - I won't let you get off that easy! I pulled the shot up in full view again, and it's definitely not flat. The diagonal of the tree gives movement to the shot, and the position of the woodpecker shows he's ready to start working. The composition, lighting, sharpness, exposure, DOF, detail, colors and texture in the tree are perfect! All of this, of course, is my expressed opinion, and I am sure I am not alone!

The Cardinal is beautiful, too! I couldn't decide on whether I would clone out the feather or not. It looks cute sticking out! Either way, it's a wonderful shot!

Cathy, I will enter it tomorrow, now call off the BetterPhoto goons! LOL Maybe we could have a side wager on how these birds do! LOL #58563

Cathy M. Gromball May 26, 2019

Thank you for conceding, Shelley! Bets, anyone?

Cathy :) #58569

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Shelley, the woodpecker is a great find and well composed. These guys are rare to spot let alone get a nice shot like this. I'd clone out the left side to almost a solid light color or put a soft oval around the photo. Heck this is a keeper!! #58628

Congrats, Shelly!!! I really love the feel of this photograph. Male Cardnals are so stunning with a snow background.
Keep them coming. #62699

Linda G. Yee May 26, 2019

Congrats, Shelly! This is a beautiful photo. That's one thing I love about winter, you can really get a good shot at some of the smaller birds that are often covered by leaves other times of the year. The combination of the bright red male cardinal against the white snow is awesome! #62837

Dolores Neilson May 26, 2019

And here you were doggin on yourself for what you perceive to be weakness in animal photography! NOT! THis is terrific! AND DESERVES to win! Super shot, my dear Shelley! #62971
