"Meet John Doe" was a 1941 film directed by Frank Capra and starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck.
This is a colleague of mine leaving school late one afternoon. The combination of the lamp post and his hat and coat were irresistible and he agreed to return to the door and come back down the sidewalk while I got a few shots.
