Description

Sisters from a shoot this past weekend :) The one had such HUGE eyes! At one point, I asked the other sister if she could open her eyes some more - I got a very 'bug eyed" response! lol Guess the answer was no... :)

Taken indoors with studio lights and external flash.

Exif: F Number: 5, Exposure Bias Value: -0.33, ExposureTime: 1/200 seconds, Flash: fired, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 200, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 41.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 40D

I was just thinking...gee I wish the other girls eyes were bigger! Seem to take so much attention away from the other sister with Mrs. wide eyes there. This is not one of my favorite shots from you. The idea is cute, but I just don't think it worked well for these two. I'm sure the parents will still love it though. I'm not liking the dark shadows that were produced by your external flash. A reflector would have helped with that. I also love the expression of the bigger sister, but the look on the little ones face just isn't as compelling. Kinda looks like a forced half smile! Not much you could have done about that I'm afraid. Sometimes they have the cutest smile right before you press the shutter and in 1 millisecond it fades! I think you have such wonderful ideas for shots of children...keep doing your thing! :~) #1100205

This is a cute, innovative shot. Done well, even though the second sister's eyes aren't as wide open. There is something about the darkness of the circled material that I'm not very fond of. Perhaps that material would look better on less fair-haired models. Keep up with the great ideas, we are all benefitting from them. #7299192

Thanks for your thoughts Aimee and Debbie! The big sister's eyes are this way in alllll of the shots! lol
Aimee - I WAS using the reflector, but I am afraid I was just to close and should have angled it away more.... I couldn't get further away, bec. I had no way to get higher! lol Ah well, hopefully mom will enjoy :)

Debbra, I can't find anywhere in my notes what post processing software you use. would you mind sharing that with us? Thanks.

As always you come up with innovative ideas that make portraits unique and a joy for the families that are lucky enough to share your results.

A very busy shot to be sure with all the patterns in the dresses. Interesting though because it kind of gives it a "Where's Waldo?" look.

Only one thing stands out for me and that is the tiny center catch light in the eyes. Whenever I see that it always looks a little "weird" That's why I asked about your software, because changing the catch light can work wonders in a portrait. #7299453

I like the pose...And the parents will probably like it too, like Aimee mentioned. In this particular shot - the pattern seems a bit busy with matching shirts and headbands times 2. #7299777

Love the POV and the skin tones Deb! They are beautiful girls! I agree with Dale regarding the catch lights in the black part of their eye. I have the same problem too sometimes. I usually just clone them out, but then it looks awkward that there is NO catchlight at all. Dale, I would love to hear what can be done with catch lights. #7300806

You got a lot of interesting and varying feedback here Deb..it is busy for sure but I like it because its original, their heabands give it a swirling effect to my eye...when I redo catchlights I just clone out the center one with another part of the pupil, then just clone anything white onto the same location of all 4 eyes using the same size clone stamp setting for each, you can try different sizes of circles and locations til it looks right. Dale may have a better technique but thats what I have done in the past. #7302266

When I redo catch lights I erase or spot heal out the original ones and then use a soft white round brush to paint new ones in. If it looks to harsh then I take the blur brush set to darken and dab it a few times! :~) #7302347

Wow - thank you to all for your thoughts and catchlight advice! It is interesting to hear the varying opinions! Thank you all for sharing! #7302881
