Nice tracking shot with just a hint of blur showing the action. It works for me. #7969337

thanks Jeff and Michael I use the panning method on this, of course I had good subjects to work with. #7970232

Thanks for joining me in trying this out Rita....it's fun to experiment! Very nice motion blur on this one...really gets me into the moment....not that I run unless I have to! LOL! #7970434

great motion effect...now when u were panning...did you have the setting on sport mode or just continuous focus? #7971211

Rita, I would love to know how you did this. I tried some shots like this at my church on Sunday. But everything was blurred. How did you get the kids sharper than the background? What shutter speed did you use? #7971462

Nice job Rita...I too would like to know what your settings were. I tried this for a class with my dogs running, but I know the settings were wrong because the dogs were crisp and sharp with no motion blur even though I tried panning. The same thing happened when I tried for the same type of shots with my husband and nephew running on the beach last summer....Guess I need a lot more practice! #7971493

this was fun the kids are begging me to do it again. first I was a good 25 feet from them and that allow me to let them start running before I took the shot which I was panning while taking it no tripod. this was my setting F/9, 1/30 sec, Iso 200, but I did have my camera set on shutter priority and I had good evening light on them. I found that if I gave myself room to start panning before I got to where I wanted the shot came out more like what I wanted. I attached one of my first picture, they were so quick I was almost missing them. #7971629

Great job. I have not been successful with the panning. I really like this. #7972020

Rita, super cool! Thanks for sharing your method! I do have a suggestion for the first posted shot - looks like it could use a duplicate layer to make the colors pop a bit more! But the movement is awesome! #7972430

Good job with the panning Rita...the settings you picked worked well....Susan, when doing a shot like this, I think shutter priority like Rita chose is the way to go....that way you can experiment with your panning and get consistant results...if you choose Ap priority..the camera will choose a different shutter speed every time and it will be very difficult to get good results....sounds like with your beach and dog attempts your shutter speed was too fast and froze the motion rather than blurring it.. #7972542

Yep, that's what happened. The motion was frozen. I played around a little tonight, trying to pan while on shutter priority, but the photos either came out all black or all white. Now you KNOW it's done wrong when that happens. I changed the settings and tried some other type of motion shots and came up with one by accident that I liked. I'll post it later tonight.
Thanks for sharing Rita...I'll keep on trying till I get it right! :) #7972916
