f/9.0, Shutter Speed: 1/320 sec., ISO: 400, Focal Length: 200mm.
This is a photo of a Koi fish as it came very close to the surface. The photo was taken at the pond of Atlantis Marine World in Long Island, New York during the month of October 2008.
The word Koi, also called Nishikigoi, comes from Japanese and simply means "Carp." In the old times the Japanese rice farmers used Koi for food and then began to breed some for beauty. Today, in Japan, Koi are symbols of love and friendship. Koi have more than eighty varieties. One variety, called “Utsuri mono”, displays calligraphic pattern on one solid ground. This fish belongs to that variety and is called “Hi Utsuri.”
