Thanks Leanne, Mary-Ella, Murry and Jim!
I was on a vacation with family and it was freezing cold so I didn't get to spend as much time photographing the gates as I intended but I did get a few shots and plan on entering them so everyone can see them as I saw them.
They were put up for a total of 16 days never to return...23 miles of them in central park! About 1 millions people from all over the world came to see them and they ALL HAD CAMERA'S so I'm sure there will be many shots to see from others with better equipment than mine. (I saw so many DSLR's that I felt like I just came out of a camera trade show)!

Thanks again girls!
Cathy the gates (safron colored material draped to represent artistic gates) were the vision of 2 artists known only as Christo and Jeanne Claude that have done several huge projects throughout the past several years. These "gates" were constructed to cover 23 miles of the central park in NYC. They stayed for only 16 days, never to return, so that drew over 1 million people from all over the world to view them before they were dismantled. I'm sure there will be many opinions about the worth of this project but I only saw a tiny portion of it and was very impressed. Here is one site to give you more answers... http://www.christojeanneclaude.net/snow.html thanks for asking.

Great Image, Bob! It doesn't matter what equipment you use just keep your vision. I use the 8700 too and it will be with me for a long time. Keep up the good work. #1191163

Thanks Grayce, Jim, Jane, Donna and Toby!
Toby, I really do like the 8700 alot but the focusing is a bit frustrating at times.

Now I understand the "Gates Removed" version. I forgot about that project and remember how it had stirred up public opinion. #1328337

bob cornelison May 07, 2005

Thanks Wayne...the project drew alot of prople from around the world but most of the locals saw it as a distraction. I obviously thought they were pretty cool.
