Due largely to the determination of a woman named Ethel, on Nov. 4th, 1958 a referendum was passed by voters to create The Lake County Forest Preserve District. Twenty days later, 50 years ago today, the LCFPD was legally established in court.

Lake County is made up of 1,368sq. miles; 920 sq. miles are water, and 498 sq. miles are land. Of that land, 26,800 acres are dedicated forest preserve lands. As of today, there are 59 "named" forest preserves. I have been to 30 of them, my goal is to visit them all. #1040870

I forgot to mention 2 things;

1) There is a preserve, "Ethel's Woods", named in her honor.

2) This image started out as my first attempt with the Orton technique. The 1st version was WAY too dark, the 2nd version WAY too light, the 3rd & 4th versions somewhere in between. This was my 5th try, and I did so many things to it, I don't know if there is much Orton left...lol! But it was fun trying ;) #6797728
