Iceberg In Drake Passage

Description

This is a view of yesterday's berg from behind. A circular polarizer enhanced the blues and with the brooding sky, it has surreal quality - it is one of my favorites. But tomorrow's will be a different berg. For those who mentioned the cold, it is summer in Antarctica and we only touched the northernmost tip of the continent. So temps ranged from 37°-47°F (3°-8°C). The wind chills were somewhat lower, but nothing like the -8°F (-22°C) here this morning. Nikkor 18-70@27mm; f10@1/400 sec.

Thank you all for your remarks and support. The sky and the icebergs do seem much bluer in Antarctica than I remember in Alaska. The air is remarkably clear. Tomorrow's shot will show the very deep blues in some icebergs as well as offer some explanation ... thanks again and stay tuned ;) #1060123
