I would appreciate some in-depth critique on this image. I am not looking for "nice POV" or the likes but suggestions as to how you might have made this image to improve it or even whether or not you think it was worth making at all! What I was seeing through the viewfinder was an image that put me in mind of the abstract paintings of the famous Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian. He painted images made up of outlined rectangles of varying sizes with some rectangles filled with color and others left white. In my image I divided up my "canvas" with the large rectangle of the house, the grey walls and yard rectangle which fills approximately the left side vertical one third and then the one third rectangle of the wall with the white gate. Doors, windows, gate, fence and roof make up other rectangles. Leaving the lady hanging out the laundry in the image was deliberate so that the abstract arrangement was in a juxtaposition to the photo-realist image of person and laundry line. Quite possibly this doesn't work but is a whole lot more fun than making a macro of a flower. #1013420Peter W. Marks October 15, 2008
No thoughts on this, folks?? #6603337Errick L. Cameron October 19, 2008
I would have liked to see more of the white gate and possible clone out the gutter on the right hand boarder as it has a tendency to distract my eye. But.. all and all, a very good photo depicting daily life. I like it. #6621608Peter W. Marks October 19, 2008
Thank you Errick. Thanks too for your hospitality on Fri evening and I hope that the rest of Art East weekend goes well.Nikki McDonald March 13, 2009
I decided to look for this one after seeing the EP on your windows crop. I definitely think this was worth making. I like it much better than the windows -- no comparison in terms of interest :) though I do think the crop was a good idea for a completely different look. Love the thought that went into this composition and I really think you are on the right track; the overall composition is excellent. How are your ps skills and how do you feel about cleaning up reality with a little -- well maybe a lot of -- cloning? Did you crop at all? Do you have the rest of the gate? Keeping your excellent vision in mind, I would suggest you simplify just a bit and I think you'll have just what you were after. #7282083Peter W. Marks March 14, 2009
