Thanks Ellen. I live in Illinois now but return each year to Cornwall where I have family. My home was just a half mile up the hill out of Charlestown and as kids this was where we learned to swim. It had a rather pebbly beach but although there were several sandy ones within a mile or two we liked Charlestown as we could dive off the wooden breakwater and as we got older the harbour wall. Back then it was a working commercial port used for the export of china clay mined in the St Austell area and it never ceased to fascinate us as 200ft long ships were inched into the inner dock around a right angle bend with just inches to spare.
When were you there Ellen?
Regards,
