A Single Seedling
Uploaded: September 03, 2008
In reading about Colorado’s beautiful Aspens I found out that all of the aspens typically grow in large clonal colonies derived from a single seedling. Each individual tree can live for 40-150 years above ground, but the root system of the colony is long-lived in some cases for thousands of years sending up new trunks as the older trunks die off above ground. After reading about them I thought if a single seedling could produce a strong colony of Aspens then a single act of kindness from me to a stranger on regular basis has the potential to change not only my environment but theirs as well for many years.

Melissa, did you see the movie, "Play It Forward?" The movie is all about that single act of kindness and if you are the beneficiary of a kindness you then do a kindness for someone else and the movement grows exponentially.Anyway this is a ultra dramatic photo of these Aspens reaching for the sky taken with sharp detail and well presented in these beautiful sepia tones!!! #6405206

Imposing shot, Melissa! I didn't know this about the aspen trees. I know it's true of desert creosote and some "mother colonies" date back 10,000 years. They say, it's actually the oldest plant on Earth. Nature's so amazing!!! By the way, I also like your treatment here! The tones are great. #6406994Colette M. Metcalf September 03, 2008
