Thanks to all of you for your comments. Actually, moonrise/set shots are not that difficult to do. The trick is all in the timing. The best moonrise/set shots are done right as the sun rises or sets on the day before or after the full moon. Then, the ambient light almost matches the glow from the moon. It is also advisable to be away from areas with a lot of light pollution. This photo was done with a Canon Elan 7, Canon EF 70-200mm f4.0L lens on Velvia. Aperture was f22 (narrow apertures are better for moon details). It was about a 4 second exposure...tripod and cable release are mandatory. ;) #41327

And you have to catch an evening when the moon rises near dusk, which doesn't often happen, to get the kind of result you have gotten with your wonderful photo Linda. I've got dozens of moon shots, but nothing I like as much as your MOSR. I'll be checking the moonrise times from now on, scouting for the time it rises just before dark. #41574
