More specifically, "Versatile Lady" was in the 13th Bomb Squadron and flew night interdiction missions in the Korean War. Known affectionatly to her crews as "Old Able" or "Patches, she flew an incredible 203 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Although banged up and patched together, she always got her crews home, ... what a gal ! The 13th Bomb Squadron has been flying since World War I. Oscar, the Devil's Own Grim Reaper is the mascot for the 13th and is painted on the right side of this same B-26 as it is on almost all 13th aircraft.

This image appears as though it has received a new breathe of life into its air intakes and has not exited the exhausts! The effects, whatever they are, are nothing short of the magnificent. Many times I feel we get hung up on viewing the photograph without really focusing on the photograher. Let's face it, Michelle, this ordinary B-26 is sitting stationary for anyone to view, admire or photograph. But it becomes so obvious that your supreme talents, efforts and "velvet touch" have prevailed and made this an entirely new creation like never before seen. One that any onlooker would admire and dream of duplicating. I feel confident that the lady behind the camera IS a REAL "Versatile Lady" ... what a gal !!

Oh, before I forget, just one more thing ... the 13th Bomb Squadron with its long and distinguished history has just recently returned home to Texas. Exactly 83 years after its initial activation at Camp Kelly, San Antonio, Texas , in 1917, the 13th Bomb Squadron was reactivated on 13 June 2000 as a B-1B Lancer unit at Dyess AFB, Abilene.

The "Versatile Lady" ... on both counts ... is a "Texas thang" !!

Come on down! #6283894

Thanks so much, Jim, both for the super compliment and for adding the extra touch of history that brings this old plane back to vibrant life!

Walking around the air museum with you that day, learning more about each plane from you than my brain could retain, was a unique pleasure. Listening to your descriptions and explanations of the varying equipment and plane parts--and if the truth be known, learning some new camera tricks by watching you shoot the planes--was an experience I won't ever forget!

Thanks for everything!

Beautiful shot Michelle. I like where you put your name. Great work. Base I went to school on in Illinois has WWII planes all over it. That was back when the guys could give a plane their girls name without being sued by he ACLU. Bill #6285265
