A nicely framed shot of a frame....widow frame that is! I find this picture interesting...the old texture of the structure and that modern little picture on the wall! I think a different scene outside would be nicer, but I don't know you well enough to know if you have the software to do that sort of thing! Very nice use of light here as well! #969246

Hey Peter:

I am happy to see that you were able to put up a photo in the gallery. Were my instructions helpful? Anyway I am glad to see you back from your amazing trip.

You really did a great job on this photo. I love the POV, realism that is portrayed through the wonderful lighting..

Excellent Job...

I do agree with Aimee about the scenery. I know that were you visited things are sometimes real close together or atleast that is the way it was when I went to Germany....

Good morning ladies. Thank you for your comments. This image was made in just one of the many art galleries in St Ives,a small and ancient fishing boat harbor on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall. The streets in St Ives are really narrow (some just 9ft wide) and Bob Devereaux's gallery is in a centuries old building. The main gallery is on the ground floor but up a steep staircase is another small room with the window I photographed. Bob was a very interesting character- an artist, a poet and a librettist and we not only discussed the pictures on display but he sat us down and recited (and acted!) a long poem he had written about old St Ives and its young men lost at sea in fishing disasters.
So, although my image does not portray any of this to a viewer it is for me a small reminder of a truly unique encounter with a fascinating character. At first I too thought the view through the window was distracting but on reflection it is part of the whole experience from which I am now four thousand miles removed. The old granite building opposite in the narrow street, the banner on which we can see part of the words "Gallery" and "(St.)Ive(s)are integral to that experience.
I hope that this hasn't been too long-winded an explanation but I wanted to put across that this is not just a reasonably captured image but a record of a very memorable experience.

Pete:

Thank you for putting things into perspective. You are exactly right about the view being apart of the entire experience and to take that away would be removing the wonderful realism of a beautifully captured moment.

I love the photo and thanks for sharing...

Of course you are not too long winded...that was a facinating description of that part of your trip. I'm glad you got a photo that will take you back to this moment in time! #6245377

This has a nostalgic appearance that I am really fond of, Peter! The fill lighting worked great, brings out the details and textures magnificently! An interesting display of talent here!

Hi Jim. Thanks for your time and comments. Some folk seem to prefer this well lit version; others the darker one and now I have a third one in my gallery that is dark and has the banner seen through the window cloned out.
I guess this is why some people like white wine, some red and others sparkly pink!
Thanks again friend.

Pete, unfortunately I had not gone into your gallery! After doing so, I can honestly say the one I prefer is the B&W "Art Gallery". Superb!!

your description is perfect and thank you for that. I love the shot for what it is and the almost vintage feel to it. the imperfections are sometimes what makes the image "feel". I really like the composition of the shot, this would look nice in a St Ives restaurant! thanks for sharing. #6255486

...and better still if we all sat down together in that restaurant, ordered the wine then talked of life and love; of success and failures; of joy and sadness, - ordered more wine and laughed!

This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.Psalm 118
Thanks Dawn.
