Goodbye Gramps 1912-2008

Uploaded: May 19, 2008

Description

My husband's Grandfather, or Gramps, passed away yesterday. He was almost 96 years old. This is an image from this past Christmas.

Until yesterday, Gramps was the oldest living Nascar driver, having raced on the tracks in Daytona against Lee Petty when the tracks were still on the beach! Gramps was an amazing Christian man who raised 6 daughters. Yesterday, he was surrounded by Gram, his daughters, and his many grandchildren, of which I am so fortunate to have become one of. We grieved our loss, but celebrated his life in Christ and the amazing blessings he leaves us.

Debbra, I just showed my husband your photo of the hands from yesterday, and then we both went to your gallery to see if you had posted the image of your husband's grandfather yet!! :o)

[My husband has been interested in motor racing for many years, so he was quite interested to hear this story about Lloyd Moore!! We Googled for more information about him...AND his racing history, too, of course!! :o)]

This is SUCH a sweet capture of 'Gramps', Debbra!! My first reaction to this image was to remark to Phil what a kindly face he had!! His smile here is infectious, and his life lines are great!! The tones, lighting, details, textures AND composition ALL are SUPERB, too!! What a WONDERFUL image this is to remember him by...and to keep forever!! :o)

It's SO comfoting to know that Gramps was a God-fearing, kindly Christian gentleman, isn't it? At times like this having this knowledge...AND the reassurance of seeing him again when Christ returns...REALLY helps a lot!! :o)

I only lost my dear Dad on the 1st of April this year (just 25 days short of his 80th birthday), and he also was a very kindly, God-fearing man, and all our family looks forward to the day when we will see him...and my Mum (who predeceased him by two and a half years)... again, on that glorious resurrection day!! (You can see an image of my Dad in my gallery...) :o)

Phil and I send you, and all your family, our sincere sympathies, Debbra... We will be thinking of you, and praying for you, that God will comfort you all at this sad time... I'm sure that all your WONDERFUL memories of Gramps will sustain you over the next while, too... #5949210

Debra, I have only just come across your gallery via a response you made in another member's gallery. Thank you so much for sharing this image of your late grandfather with us and belated condolences. Amen to your expressions of trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and I thank God that there are so many on BP that share this faith.
A brother in Christ, Pete #6735319
