I like the atmosphere in this photo...the shot and the effect goes along together! #302015

Thanks for the comments, The original shot was over exposed at the window. I also had a good dose of CA (purple fringing) along the window panes. I agree with you about the atmosphere, It really makes the original look like a museum shot (or worse).- Mike #1782460

what did you mean by CA (purple fringing) ? #1782920

Mike Rubin August 30, 2005

CA is Chromatic Aberration. It occurs becauuse of the way different light waves go through a lens and how the lens is constructed. Some lens control it better than others. If you look at the wood making up the window panes you will see it in the examples.

Thanks for the comments. I try to stay away from special effects (I'm not saying they are wrong) but in this case it salvaged the pic. and looks better than in color.- Mike #1998668

Amy, Thank you. It took a lot of work (At least for me) to take what started out as a poor shot and bring it to something acceptable.-Mike #2522612

I really like this photo Mike, especially with the Sepia Tone you gave it! From the photo discussions, it sounds like it took a lot of work! Good job!

John,Thanks for the comments, It was a lot of work back then, but the more proficient you get with your software the quicker you get things done, I still have a ways to go. #3719745

This captures the mood of these old places. May I suggest another VA place for great shots: Ashlawn Highland National Park, the home of President Monroe. Not too crowded. #4347047

Thanks Mary. What part of VA. is this NP in? #4348098

Ashlawn is in Albemarle County, VA, which also where Monticello and UVA are located. Fall is a great time to go. #4350058

Thanks Mary, We must have been near it since we did get to Monticello. #4352334
