I am eternally grateful to have known Dave Barton, a friend and former colleague who died Thursday at the age of 53. He was one of the best headline writers I've ever known. "Make it sing!," we'd say, and he did. This one's for you, Dave. -30-

Sanjay, I am so very sorry for your loss. Carolyn, your comment made me cry. But it's probably true: He lived and breathed writing the most clever, witty, smart headlines. And he absolutely loved editing political stories. But since he had been hospitalized for the past several weeks, he missed out on all the excitement of the elections. Thanks again for your comments; they help me (and my husband) get through a difficult time. #892071

I don't know if you saw it in your image, Patricia, but 'he' is laying horizontally in the flame of the torch looking upward towards the heavens and there's a wing on his back ... a very good omen! Nicely done and a very touching tribute to a dear friend!!
