This is one of my favorite photos for many reasons. I took it while my husband and I were on a wonderful vacation in California last summer, I had never seen a flame skimmer before, and I don't have a fancy macro lens so I was particularly pleased with how well this came out.
I submitted it in a landscape format in late July but decided to try a square crop for this re-submission. I also tried to bring out some detail on the upper wing tips, did some dodging and burning, and sharpened slightly.
