The Japanese garden is an idealized form of nature, a tangible realization of the aesthetics of Shinto nature worship and the ideals of Buddhist philosophy. The thoughtful arrangements of ponds and rocks, the miniature pines, the clumps of bamboos, the ornamental trees and shrubs - are all expressed in an exquisitely poetic way and appear to have found their growing sites by natural processes.
