Oak Alley

This is one of the most photographed antebellum homes in the country. You can search the Betterphoto site for "Oak Alley" to find more than half a dozen photos. Most of the photos are the big picture. However, for this lesson when I went down to Vacherie to make some photos of the Oak Alley, I decided to concentrate on the building. I decided on this because:
1. The diagonal red path leads our eye to the building.
2. The reptition of the arch pattern created by the canopy of the oaks frames the structure.
3. The leaves, the moss growing on the tree, the grass along with the plaster on the building columns, all give a differing feeling of texture. This adds to the visual interest.
4. The repition of the columns and the vertical lines they create help to reinforce a feeling of grandeur in our mind.
I made this photo after the sun set and the lights were turned on and the tourists have left. You can see the high ISO value needed because of this.
