This was taken at a small church that has interesting architectural character. The strong natural lighting and interior element drew me to experiment photographically all with a friend, Michael.
In this setting I wanted to avoid a flash as much as possible, but I should have used a soft light/reflector on Michael. A silhouette approach would be interesting, but not in this case. To make the silhouette effective, maybe Michael should have been better posed to his profile, not frontal and without a staged pose.
The piano adds interests and I like the way light reflects off of it though it appears to be a little ‘hot’ while losing some detail. The shadows under piano are also beneficial I feel. The pattern gate on the left should be partially or totally cropped out and to make this image even more appealing would be to have a few individuals sitting in the pews. This has potential but needs work.
