Photoshop composite of two images. For the first image, I locked exposure on the sky and for the second, I locked exposure on the foreground land.

Thanks to everyone for your kind comments. I especially had to laugh when I saw your comments, Murry. In reviewing this image, I realized that I was not entirely accurate in my description. Yes, it is true that I took one shot while locked on the sky and another while the exposure was locked on the land. However, I must have bumped my tripod when shooting because these two images did not sync up perfectly. When I tried to combine them in Photoshop, the horizons would not line up.
What you see above is actually two versions of the same image combined. I shot in camera raw. As I imported the image, I adjusted the exposure (in Photoshop) to where the sky looked gorgeous and colorful. I saved this first file and re-opened the raw source file. This time, I changed the exposure to be good for the land. Combining these two images was much easier because everything lined up perfectly. I only had to work at the selection between land and sky. In fact, I would have liked to have done a better job with the selection but I was in a bit of rush, because I wanted to get back to my other BetterPhoto projects.
Speaking of other projects, this image is featured in my new DVD, "Introduction to Digital Photography," due out in October. I will post it on the site very soon, with a special offer for all of you BetterPhoto members ;-)
Thanks again for your kind remarks. #752121

Great excercise in compensating for drastic lighting differences, Jim. Sometimes only such adjustments can bring out the beauty of both the sky and the foreground. I'll excuse your shameless plug if you'll excuse this shameless suckup :) #752290Shirley L. Carpenter September 02, 2004
A very beautiful image Jim!! #752340Jim Miotke My Courses September 02, 2004
I was just about to write "pardon my shameless plug" but I must have forgot. As far as your compliment goes, Wally, there's nothing to excuse :)And thanks to you too, Shirley.
