Joannie Bertucci level-classic September 01, 2004

Bob, I just went through your gallery and love what I saw! I enjoy PSing photos and it looks like you do too!
Your daughter is quite the diver! Did she get to watch the woman's diving in the Olympics this year?
Like the others have said, the angle makes this shot and the colors are a blast! #750527

bob cornelison September 01, 2004

Thanks Amy, K., Stephen, Cynthia and Joannie!
K.,she is ripping her dives and although they are quite simple they look really pretty with very little splash!
Joannie, I can't print a photo whithout messing with it. It could be because I am not the type photographer that can capture the perfect shot without any editing, like some of our bp friends, but I feel I am an artist that can take an ordinary shot and make it interesting by using the computer to enhance, crop, edit or whatever it takes to make it better. And yes my daughter did watch the divers in Athens and they were awsome! Thanks again!~:0) #750553

Murry Grigsby September 02, 2004

What a wonderful image!
I love the perspective, the way she looks like she's already begun moving into the dive, the long leading line of the board, the trees framing the bottom of the frame and the striking colors.
Easy to see why this is a POTD
Congratulations, Bob

I want to clarify my comment. I did not intend for it to come off as rude. Normaly it is customary to offer a suggestion when they see a problem with a photo. However I do not know how to use a photo program so cannot offer that. All I can do is point out my ovservation. Like photgraphy, a program takes lots of practice to do properly and we are all gathered here to learn from each other. So the best advice I can offer is to keep shooting and never get discouraged. #840724

bob cornelison October 14, 2004

Thanks to all for your comments! Scott I take critique quite well because I know that is how to get better and I want to know if there are things I can do to get a better final product. This is actually only one shot but I did select the sky, deleted it and then used a gradient fill for the sky. I do get frustrated with the magic want selection tool though because it doesn't get right up to the edges without a jagged edge that I innevitably have to clean up and that takes a long time usually. Any hints here would be greatly appreciated.
And I will never be discouraged by any comments because I just get too much satisfaction from "playing with photography!"

Mary-Ella Bowles October 14, 2004

I love the angles, low vantage point, and high drama of this image. Wonderful!! It keeps me looking at it over and over (waiting for her to fall back, I guess, lol). Great work, Bob. I agree with you about the magic wand tool - I'm never satisfied with it either. #841221

bob cornelison October 14, 2004

Thanks Leanne, Donna and Mary-Ella!! I can't help waiting for the fall back too! It's like one of those trust things where you just fall back and someone will catch you but in this case it's all up to you to fall just right so you hit the water without hurting yourself.
I think this is one of my favorites because of the way the 3 colors work together, the angle and the look in her face of the anticipation of the fall.
p.s. I meant to say magic wand!

What a splendid image, and what you did with the sky is just wonderful. I'm glad you explained it in the comments. I'm a novice at manipulation, and wasn't quite sure what you had done. #4514405

Thanks for your comment Ankhorite! Photoshop can be explored for years and it just keeps getting better.
