The technique is not too hard. Set your still life up, choose Bulb for shutter speed, set the focus and put on manual focus. Then turn off all the lights (make sure the room is really dark)

Use a pen light to move around the scene while holding the shutter open. It will take a few tries to get the right shutter time.
