Hi Karen, This is a great family shot, including the dog adds a lot to the overall appeal. He’s well composed too, looking into the frame. Good work capturing catchlights in everyone’s eyes--including Dad through his glasses. Excellent! Your exposure is good, even with Dad’s white shirt. Having Dad hold the dog keeps the white from taking over the photo as well.

As in your group of 2 photo, I think you might have done better to include Dad’s full hand. That’s more important than the tops of the tiles (which look better slightly cropped in anyway since they’re almost but not quite aligned with the top edge). Plaid is problematic in portraits because it calls attention. If this were a formal sitting, a simple solid would be better. The easiest solution is to crop in. Overall, great job. This is Christmas card material. #763648
