Beats me, Isabel..Seed pods maybe?? They look like what's in the center of the water lily only those are smaller, so I'm not sure if they are related.

That is a seed pod for Lotus. And you have also posted an opened Lotus. I know because I took some of the same shots yesterday at the arborteum in DC and they were labeled. Not that I am any expert on water flowers! #680315

Hi Carolyn, Donna is right they are lotus flowers and seed pods. We don't have them in anywhere in NY that I have seen, but did see them out west. They grow in ponds like waterlilies. Great shot! #680367
