Flowers for loved ones. In Nova Scotia, I got up early one morning to drive into Peggy's Cove for sunrise photos. The fog, of course, meant there would be no sunrise to photograph, so I stopped at the Swiss Air 111 crash site memorial. As I walked on the path, these beautiful roses caught my eye laying on rocks in the fog. Moving photo...moving story. Why were the stems blackened? A custom, an accident? Was it natural? I can feel how it probably affected you. You captured a lot here...narritive, emotion and the realism (symbolism too) of the splatterd dirt....most poetic. #722547

No, the stems did not appear to be painted or dyed - they were black like they had been in water too long. The odd thing about that being that the bloom would normally be spent too (or at least showing signs of age). I found it all very curious, but beatifully so - something that didn't really need an explanation because it seemed to somehow "fit." #4694733
