Good Morning K., Bonnie, and Rob :)
Well, I had to try out the Flood filter at least once in my life (lol)!

This was shot in Chester, CT w/tripod. I usually shoot in RAW, but chose to go jpeg (2.2 MB before Flood,to get faster reload times) with the automatic 'fireworks show' setting on my camera, which turned out to be F/8 at 4 seconds.

This was the first time I shot fireworks. Thanks for the comments :) #635064

Great colors and good use of flood filter, Carolina. I just shot my first fireworks this year too ... not too bad, but wish I had a "fireworks" setting. #635328

Carolina K. Smith July 07, 2004

Thank you, Wally, for your comments :)
I took about 100 photos, and all the exif info showed same, F8 (the smallest MY camera has) and 4 seconds (the longest time MY camera has). It also chooses to set at 'infinity' distance.
I had read an article on shooting fireworks, which basically said the same... choose a small aperature, infinity (or 'mountain')distance setting, and x number of seconds. I'm sure you could duplicate this on the manual settings of your camera. I certainly would have, using RAW setting, except if I had chosen RAW, I'm sure I would have missed a lot more because of the slower reload times. :) #635363

Great shot...and first time out, Carolina! I was so hoping to do the same thing...first time shooting fireworks, but ours were rained out! LOVE the flood effect here. Gives it a unique edge:-) #635487

Carolina K. Smith July 07, 2004

Thanks for your comments, Jan! Beginners Luck, or, thank God for auto settings, sometimes :)
Sorry you were rained out :(
I remember going to a balloon festival 2 years in a row, where no balloons took off due to weather :)
Have a great day! #635546

You did a bang up job on this one, Carolina.
You captured the entire burst in the frame.
Excellent detail and exposure.

Hi Bill :)
I used the widest setting on my camera (35mm equivalent). Then I cropped a bit off the top so the works would fill the frame entirely.
Thanks :)
