High Water
Uploaded: June 23, 2007
Significant rains over the past month have caused the Red River of the North to exceed its banks by over 10 feet in Grand Forks. Since the 1997 flood that devestated the city, flood walls and dikes have been built to prevent flooding. I took this picture 2 days ago when the river was as 38 feet (flood stage is 27). The dikes and flood walls now protect the city up to 60 feet. The bridge on this picture is one of three bridges that connect Grand Forks, North Dakota and East Grand Forks, Minnesota. In the 1997 flood, when the river crested at 54 feet, all three bridge decks were under water by several feet.
