Barbara, this really is a VERY pretty flower - it's a pity that it's such a curse here in Oz, though?!! The petal colouring is STUNNING, so it's no wonder that someone thought it would be a good idea to bring it into Oz for ornamental garden use!! ;o/ I just Googled 'Cape Tulip', and found out a little more about this plant:

I wonder how many times things that have been brought here as hopefully "attractive ornamental garden plants" have ended up becoming noxious weeds instead!! :o( The Cape Tulip was introduced to Australia in the mid-nineteenth century from the Western Cape Province of South Africa...
