Pastels a la Hydrangea

Uploaded: August 16, 2002

Description

My goal was a soft effect so I used shallow dof (F:2.2) to blur around points of focus and overexposure (1-320th/sec) to create a soft and gentle glow. Once imported in photo editing software, I manipulated original lilac color to pastels for visual enhancement. I hope you like it.

Wonderful watercolor effect Dolores!...Colors are very well balanced!..super cool pic!...Could I know what kind of photo software did you use?.. #11818

Dolores Neilson August 18, 2002

Greetings Leo!! Thanks for the complimentary note. I did not apply an artistic filter (like "watercolor") for this effect. It's simply the result of the way the hydrangea was photographed (shallow depth of field and overexposure). Here is the ORIGINAL

Only color was manipulated, not the image. And I use photoshop. Thanks so much. Let's see if embedding my link worked!! #11836

Dolores Neilson August 18, 2002

I'm trying it again..haven't embedded a link in a while. Sorry. Original #11837

I'll figure out what I'm doing wrong one of these days...in the meantime Leo...here is the original:

Wow! The before and after on this one is significantly different! What a change! You "breathed life" into those little Hydrangea flowers!

You're right, the shallow DOF and slight overexposure was key in giving them a "dreamy" quality. Nicely done! --Craig H. #11915
