Portrait of the Photograper in Frustration

Uploaded: May 09, 2007

Description

First time using an underwater housing and couldn't figure out the settings. Camera is underwater in a swimming pool and I'm standing in the pool with my head out of the water. Turned the camera toward me to see if I could make it shoot something.

Exif: Exposure Time: 1/1000, Flash: 24, Focal Length: 7mm, Camera Model: Canon PowerShot S45

Well I think we have had some level of frustration with our cameras. I like this capture. I hope you finally figured everything out! #652850

HEHEHEH, cool, Now do one with your head IN the water, make sure you breath to get the bubbles, or make a fish face LOL. Great job! #4268526

Thanks Daphne and Peaches. Yes, I did eventually figure out how to use my camera underwater in a housing. It's the strangest thing, but essentially, you need to disable autofocus in order to get the Canon S45 to take a picture at all and this may be true for other cameras as well. When I did my first dive, I pressed the shutter several dozen times. It was very hard to tell if a picture had been taken or not with scuba gear on and when I got to the surface I discovered that only 2 pictures had been taken. Anyway, I remember when I took this how surprised I was that a picture was taken. At the time, I thought it was a throwaway shot, but after looking at it again, I've decided it's sort of interesting. I'm usually a pretty smiley guy, btw. #4270299
