I love this capture. Do you have any exposure tips on using plexiglass? I would love to be able to capture something similar to this. #4034690

Hayley J. Hamlin March 08, 2007

Thanks so much everyone for the comments on this image...
Anna, as for exposure tips...this was my very first time using plexi so I definetely need to experiment a bit more to figure out my settings better. When I took these the light wasn't so great. So my ISO was high!! For the 2 images in my gallery these were the settings. Manual Mode, Natural Light, No flash, SS 1/125, F 6.3, ISO 1600. I also used my Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 lens. Because it was my first time using plexi I wasn't sure what my aperture needed to be to get everything in focus so I started with 6.3 and was going to play around but baby wasn't having any of that...so I'll have to experiment more with that someother time. I do have one shot that was F4.5 and that was fine as well. So I am not sure I am much help...still learning and experimenting myself:)

Oh, this is adorable! What a good idea.

Plexi glass! Who knew?! I was -wondering- how you got a little baby to stay so still and not ~~~splash~~~! #5400225

Robert F. Wilson February 28, 2008

Awesome gallery Hayley. I was wondering about the size of the plexi-glass you use, 4x8 sheet..pretty expensive isn't it..? Love this shot. How did he stay still and not smear up the plexi. #5566012

Hayley J. Hamlin February 28, 2008

Robert, Thank you very much!!
I use the smallest size plexi that home depot carries becuase I am an on-location photog so I have to be able to travel with it. It is not expensive at all. If I had a studio however, I'd get a much larger peice to save time in editing. This little guy was only a few months old so he could not move, but I have put movers on plexi and they do get away from you, just have to be patient. It's very easy to clean the drool marks up with windex and papertowel and if you miss, you can always edit them out ;) Hope that helps :) Hayley #5568139

This is a wonderful captured moment of a baby discovering its own reflection. I love the space around the infant and the reflection. Most of all, I like the candid joy of discovery.
