Soldier Meets Son

Uploaded: April 05, 2004 16:20:30

Description

***used the new Nikon Coolpix 8700***,ProgrammedAuto(F/3.6,shutter=1/2.6,FL 25.4mm),RAW,then TIFF, tweeked in PS7 and Extensis Intellihance Pro 4.0. An enlisted Army soldier who did not get to see his newborn son (5 days old) until the completion of Basic Combat Training! 31Mar2004,Ft. Benning,GA. I did not try to 'fix' the photo, as in the white skin stripe by his glass frames mean thicker frames were used during 21 days of field exercises (He really tanned!)

Thanks for your kind words. At least the birth of his son enabled his wife to come to his graduation from BCT! #465004

What a joyous moment! And aren't they just the mirror image of each other...beautiful. Technically the upper left is blown out and some areas on bubs face are too hot but it has given a lovely profile light (something has to give)! This could be interesting as a silohuette too.....just a thought, beautiful shot though and they'll treasure it forever. #465144

Mary, Thank you so much. This photograph means the world to me because this Soldier is MY son, and my commitment to send him a hand printed photo greeting card every day that he was in Basic Combat Training ended up meaning a lot to both of us, and that project was a catalyst for me getting back into photography. Also this was the first photograph I ever submitted to BetterPhoto.com. There are lots of great photographers on this website, so I am honored to be a finalist. This will be very special for my Soldier son also. Thank you all so much. Carolina #534747
