Description

Dressed for the holiday: another photo from my neighborhood. I know it's past Valentines Day but I took this yesterday and the hearts were still on the windows. Wishing all a happy weekend!

Thanks, Melissa! This is what I hoped to catch when I went up the hill. We have an honest-to-goodness CASTLE here in Savanna: the best-kept secret in the state! It is almost impossible to photograph due to all the trees. In summer, you can't even see it! The road going there is private, not accessible, so I tried to get it from the other side. Although they do rent it out for weddings now and then, it is not open to the public. A couple lived there by themselves for many years. I understand the wife passed away so now, the man is there alone - in 60-something rooms! It's called Havenhurst. There is a website which shows the interior. Every room is filled with fine antiques. It's the midwest version of Hearst Castle. The upper tower is the Crystal Room. When it's lit we can see it from our house. It even has a couple indoor pools and grottos. Some of the weddings are held in the gazebo ("sort of" visable here with a red drape). Maybe someday I will get invited to a function there and get some better photos of the place! It's really quite amazing. If I owned the place, I think I'd open it for tours or maybe start a Bed and Breakfast but to each their own... #3954573
