February 19, 2007

What kind of people are commenting on this picture? Do you really not see that halo around the tree? That's some pretty sloppy Photoshop work, and very distracting. I don't mean to rain on the parade, but come on... The tree and sky are great, the rest of the foreground is fairly uninspiring. #3965864

Laurence Saliba level-classic February 19, 2007

Couldn't help not respond to this!!! Dan you must have some blurry monitor! What halo are you seeing? Do you mean to say this image is superimposed on another? All that was done here was a slight adjustment in levels, a minor crop and sharpened. LOL sloppy PS work!!! Mur sib grieg bahnan!!! #3966461

February 20, 2007

Laurence, I'm looking at this on another monitor and see the same thing. Look at the top of the tree where it meets the sky, it is much lighter than the sky above and around it. I'm not suggesting that there was any superimposing. What it looks like to me is that you tried to lighten the tree (or darken the sky?), and just weren't all that accurate.

If I am wrong then I apologize, just trying to give an honest critique so that you might be able to improve the picture with some minor post-processing adjustments. If anybody else sees what I'm talking about, please confirm because Laurence thinks I am "Mur sib grieg bahnan"... #3969105

Paul Giorgio February 20, 2007

Just wanted to point out that sometimes it can turn out to be a natural phenomon...there was a photo uploaded some time ago of a giraffe that had a similar effect...such as a 'halo' glow...this can at times be achieved with a photoshop colour curve tweak but at times its a natural effect....now there is one way to give a critic on a photo and there are others...Dan C you mentioned the foreground being uninspiring - right? So what is one to do? crop it? and have a floating tree? In your response you should be fair...if you dont like it...just say why but do say what you would have done or give advice..and not just act aggressive...cause your statement as read by me...not the author of the photo was agressive.. #3969146

Laurence, I can recognize when an image is superimposed and your is not superimposed and as Paul explained is a natural light effect capture by the camera that is called light radiant and sometime can be perceived by naked eyes.

It's a genuine and fantastic beautiful images and congratulations for your Finalist, Laurence!!! #6643078

October 23, 2008

OK, since I have been mentioned twice in the last few comments, I'll add my response. I never implied that the image was superimposed, or anything of the sort. To Max: my monitor is calibrated just fine! All I really wanted to point out (and admittedly, I could have done this more tactfully at the time) is that there is very distinct and obvious haloing around the top of the trees. Paul G. has suggested this is a 'natural phenomenon', which is just ridiculous, it's a very common editing mistake that even the pros make when they are processing a picture. If you don't believe me, I would invite Laurence to post the original, UNEDITED picture on this thread, in the interest of us all learning something. Laurance, my original opinion still holds - I think this is a nice shot that would be even better without that haloing, and that this is an easy fix in Photoshop. #6647135

Sirsendu Gayen October 23, 2008
