Description

RAW, ISO 100, Lens 105 Micro with a polarizing filter mounted, Manual Mode, Spot Metered -.7, white balance set off a grey card, exposure set at f/16 for 1/80 second.
Late October on the Gulf Coast means butterfly and bird migration. Fast moving cold fronts means deep blue skies and slow starting and slow moving butterflies. After an unsuccessful try at getting some sunrise color on a field with longhorns, I headed to a field that normally has lots of migrating butterflies. I found this one perched just perfectly for his (her) picture—the leading lines of the branch to the butterfly and then the little flower at the end helps balance the overall image. My only concern was a swirling (sometimes strong) wind. Believe it or not, post processing in Photoshop RAW included no adjustment to the color (the colors really were this deep and saturated).
